10 Quick Fixes At Work To Go Green

Turn off the lights at the end of the day...
and save 5.4 kg for every fluorescent light

Make it a habit to turn off the lights when you're leaving any room for 15 minutes or more and use "Energy Star" rated light bulbs www.energystar.gov

Take public transportation, car pool, walk or ride your bike to work...
and save 50 kg for 9.3 mile commute
go to www.flexcar.com and www.zipcar.com for alternatives

Turn off the vending machines overnight...
and save 38 kg for each machine

Turn off computers and power strips at the end of the day...
and save 15 kg per computer
- Check with your IT department to make sure your computer doesn't need to be on to run backups or other maintenance
- Set your computer to go to sleep automatically during meetings or short breaks - remember screen savers don't conserve energy
- Recycle your computer www.computertakeback.com, or donate to organizations that will refurbish them and find them new homes www.sharetechnology.org and www.techsoup.org (you may receive a tax deduction)

Turn off printers & copiers at the end of the day...
and save 6.5 kg per printer/copier

Make it a habit to print on both sides of each page, or use the backside of old documents for faxes, scrap paper or for first drafts...
and cut your paper consumption by as much as 50%

Think before you print...
could this be read or stored online instead? Request to be removed from mailing lists for catalogs, newsletters,
magazines as most can be found online. Visit
www.newdream.org/junkmail for more information

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle...
place recycling bins in accessible, high traffic areas and
provide clear information about what can and cannot be recycled
- toner cartridges and buy remanufactured ones...
and conserve about 1/2 gallon of oil
- cell phones
Visit www.collectivegood.com for more information
Buy recycled goods - go to www.conservatree.org

Take a coffee mug and silverware with you to work instead of using disposables...
and you'll only produce /130 of the volume of waste
compared to using disposables
